Have a Summer of Fun

Plan an adventure to one of our thrill-seeking destinations or cool it down with a relaxing camping trip or Amish Trail tour.  Cattaraugus County, otherwise known as the Enchanted Mountains, is just a short drive south from Buffalo, is close to Chautauqua Lake, and borders the PA Wilds!  Plan a family vacation that is packed with fun, not with dollar signs.

Camping is a favorite summer pastime, and our campgrounds will take you as far away from modern day conveniences and civilization as you want ... or not!  Pack up your tent and rough it out at Allegany State Park, Camp Emerald Acres, Kinzua Lake Campground, or Shamrock Pines Campground.  Prefer a cabin?  There are plenty to choose from at Allegany Mountain Family Recreation Resort or at the Great View Cabins in Killbuck.  Pope Haven in Randolph and Triple R Campground in Franklinville offer visitors an array of different amenities and activities.  Experience "glamping" (glamorous camping) at the brand new Woods at Bear Creek Resort.  Many of our campgrounds have naturally breathtaking views and features - enjoy fishing at Lake Lane Getaway and the view of the sunset over the rolling hills at Mystic Water Resort.  Whatever floats your boat, there are options for the experienced or inexperienced camper and for all types of RV’s.

Take a road trip through NY's Amish Trail.  Navigate the back roads of the western side of the county to discover communities of Old Order Amish.  Find the simpler way of life that these people enjoy as they embrace existence without the modern conveniences.  Purchase handmade quilts, furniture, children’s toys, baked goods and more crafted by expert Amish artisans.  The countryside has come alive with hills of green, animals out in pasture, and beautiful gardens lining the houses.  For tips before you go and a handy map, go to AmishTrail.com.

The gigantic rock formations at Rock City Park in Olean, Thunder Rocks in Allegany State Park or Little Rock City in Little Valley will have you towering over the treetops or looking to rocks as high as the buildings you see in the city!  Rock City Park offers guests a well-established hiking trail with key information along the way so you don't miss any of the fun!  Thunder Rocks is a great day trip for anyone in the area that also allows you to enjoy kayaking, fishing, biking, and swimming while you're there!  Little Rock City is for the adventurer - this is wilderness at its best and is also a favorite spot for many mountain bikers.

Experience art and nature combined as you climb on and meander around huge sculptures at Griffis Sculpture Park.  Bring the whole family and pose with the sculptures for a family photo everyone will love!  Feel the warmth of the sun on the sculptures, hike through the woods to find more remote sculptures or just relax by the ladies of the lake.  This has often been referred to as a hidden gem worthy of many trips each summer!

Find ‘Excitement Worth Sharing’ at the Seneca Allegany Casino and Hotel in Salamanca and try your luck on over 2,000 slots and 33 table games.  Plan a spa and slots trip with the girls or treat your sweetie to a night out with dinner at the award-winning Western Door Steakhouse and then to one of their Superstar entertainment events.  This June comes the ‘Last Summer on Earth!’  Don't worry … it's the name of the Tour headlining the Barenaked Ladies, The Violent Femmes and Colin Hay on June 21.  Dwight Yoakam will perform earlier in the month on June 6 with Terry Fator to follow on June 19.

Events in the Enchanted Mountains outshine the others with something for everyone including equestrian rides, history teachings, big name concerts, hometown festivals, stockcar racing, and muddy runs!  Don't miss any of the excitement and sweet summer fun … go to EMFun.us/Events.  If you like being out on the water, enjoy the 91 miles of virtually untouched shoreline at Onoville Marina.  The pristine waters of the Allegany Reservoir await you and your boat, jet ski or kayak.
